Area Law Enforcement
Around 50 cars have been smeared with what seems to be blood from a person in the Germany's municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.
Automobiles, walls and postboxes were vandalized, sometimes with swastikas, they reported in a statement.
Police say they were contacted during the night on Wednesday evening, when a man discovered that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a reddish fluid.
The fluid had been placed in the form of a banned symbol, they added.
Law enforcement then found many other smeared vehicles and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are banned in Germany under laws prohibiting the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials report preliminary tests suggest the fluid was likely human blood.
"At present there remains no lead as to its source; authorities are presently not cognizant of any injuries in association with the incident," they added.
Municipal representatives stated they were attempting "to solve the case" and have asked to the community for tips.
A high-ranking official said the vandalism left him speechless and needed to be solved rapidly.
"This event hits the center of Hanau and revives the wounds of the extremist terrorist attack five years ago," he wrote on online, referring to the murder of nine victims by a shooter aiming at people of immigrant origin in five years prior.
